Why stores move from BigCommerce

BigCommerce is a capable platform. These are the reasons stores still choose to move.

  • “The app we need only exists on Shopify.”

Shopify has one of the largest app and theme ecosystems of any hosted platform, so integrations, marketing tools and themes are easier to find.

  • “Our plan went up because our sales did.”

BigCommerce moves stores to a higher plan once yearly sales pass a threshold. Shopify's plans are priced on features, not on your sales.

  • “Our team finds the admin hard to use.”

Shopify's admin is built for non-technical teams, so day-to-day changes stop waiting on a developer.

  • “We want Shop Pay at checkout.”

Shop Pay, Shopify's accelerated checkout, is built into every Shopify store. Your customers may already have it saved.

What moves across, and what doesn't

Most of a BigCommerce store has a direct Shopify equivalent. These are the parts that change shape.

  • Products, variants and images

Carried across with prices, stock, categories and photos.

  • Customers

Names, emails, addresses and order history come across.

  • Order history

Past orders are imported so your records and your customers' accounts stay complete.

  • Pages and blog posts

Rebuilt in the new theme, with the text and images kept.

  • URLs and search rankings

Every old address is redirected to its new one, so Google and your customers land in the right place.

  • SEO titles and descriptions

    Carried across page by page.

  • Customer passwordsHandled differently

Passwords can't be exported from any platform, and Shopify doesn't need them: customers sign in with their email and a one-time code.

  • Option sets, modifiers and custom fieldsHandled differently

Shopify structures these differently: as variants, metafields or an app. We map each before import so nothing is lost.

How a BigCommerce to Shopify migration runs

Your current store keeps taking orders the whole way through.

  1. 1

    Audit the BigCommerce store

We list the catalogue structure, option sets, apps and integrations, and tell you how each will work on Shopify.

  2. 2

    Build on Shopify alongside it

The new store is built and loaded with your data while the old one keeps trading.

  3. 3

    Test with real orders

We place test orders, check payments, shipping, tax and emails, and compare products and customers against the old store.

  4. 4

    Switch over, then watch

Redirects go live with the new store. We watch orders, search traffic and tracking in the weeks after.

Scoped first, then a fixed price

The cost depends on catalogue size, how product options are structured, the apps to replace and the design. We audit the store, then quote one number.

“We engaged Web Divine to redesign our website with a focus on improving our branding, SEO, and overall user experience. They were easy to work with, took the time to understand our business, and delivered a clean, modern site that better reflects who we are as an ICT company. The LinkedIn integration is a nice touch, making it easier to connect with our audience and showcase what we do. We’ve also seen improvements in how the site presents in search, and the structure now supports both client engagement and general enquiries more effectively. Communication was straightforward, feedback was handled quickly, and the whole process felt well managed from start to finish. A solid team if you’re looking for a practical, well-executed website uplift.”

Answers to the usual questions

Not if the move is done properly. BigCommerce product and category URLs won't match Shopify's. Shopify uses its own fixed URL patterns (/products/, /collections/, /pages/), so every old address is redirected to its new one, and titles, descriptions and content are carried across. That mapping is part of every migration we do.

Customer passwords can't be exported, though on Shopify customers now sign in with their email and a one-time code instead. Product option sets, modifiers and custom fields are mapped to Shopify variants, metafields or an app rather than copied directly.

We scope the store first, then quote a fixed price. As a guide, a Shopify store in Australia typically costs $8,000 to $30,000+ depending on catalogue size, design and integrations. Catalogues with complex option sets take longer to map, which is what moves the number. Shopify's own plan fees are separate.

No. The Shopify store is built and tested alongside your current one, which keeps trading until the switch. The changeover itself is a domain change.

We can rebuild your current look as a custom Shopify theme, refresh it, or start from a new design.

Yes. Our Shopify support covers fixes, changes and improvements by the hour, with hours packs or a monthly retainer.
